The Story of water, humans and house

Home is often an owner’s way of showing love to themselves. Shirsha envisioned a house that would be a tranquil retreat from busy city life. Our design approach was to bring these spaces and materials to life in a way that becomes part of the moments spent with them. Our designs were merely extensions of how one could connect with their own home, in their own way.

Playing hide & seek with light: We added vertical coconut wood louvers to the fixed glass above windows to create a filter for direct sunlight, enhancing the drama of light and shadow in the spaces. These vertical louvers not only served a functional purpose but also became a continuous visual element within the house, enhancing the visual lightness of the internal walls and drawing attention to the beautifully crafted coconut wood ceilings.

Allowing nature & the home to be more like each other: The original design featured two bays separating private and public areas across levels, offering stunning views of the fields and river from decks. We extended these decks with floating daybeds, expanding the house into the landscape and transforming them into interactive spaces.

Taking a long, lovely walk with colours: We curated an inviting entrance courtyard anchored by a striking large red door, leading into a double-height foyer featuring a meticulously crafted floating staircase. We introduced vibrant terrazzo flooring to contrast elegantly with the concrete walls and ceilings, and repurposed a window into bespoke display shelves in the living room to showcase the homeowners' art collection. In the bathroom, we relocated a seamless terrazzo bathtub to offer a scenic view, enhanced by custom lighting fixtures and towel racks.

Knowing that you’re special to someone: We transformed the staircase railing into a comfortable seating nook on the first floor, enhancing the ambiance for pausing and enjoying the river view. This cozy area features a daybed positioned by the window, inviting a deeper connection with the surroundings. Every detail, including the custom-designed door handles reminiscent of grand historical doorknobs, was tailored to offer a unique and enriching experience.
